The Complete Safari Packing List

Safari packing is less about volume and more about the right neutral layers, a few specific accessories, and respecting luggage weight limits on light aircraft transfers.

Luggage

If any part of your itinerary includes a light-aircraft transfer between parks, luggage is typically restricted to soft-sided duffel bags under 15kg (33lb) per person, including camera gear. Hard-shell suitcases usually can't be accommodated. Your operator will confirm the exact limit for your specific route.

Small items experienced travellers wish they'd packed

What to leave at home

Camouflage-patterned clothing (illegal for civilians in several African countries), excessive luggage, and anything you'd be devastated to lose to dust or a curious vervet monkey around camp.
